World War One

World War One, commonly known as the great war began in July 1914 and lasted more than four years, with an armistice finally signed by the great powers of Europe in November 1918.

  • 7 to 10 August 1914 & 14 to 16 August 1914 – Battle of Mulhouse.

  • 7 August 1914 to 6 September 1914 – Battle of the Frontiers.

  • 23 August 1914 – The Battle of Mons.

  • 24 August 1914 – Battle of Audregnies

  • 24 August 1914 to 5 September 1914 – Retreat from Mons

  • 6 to 12 September 1914 – First Battle of the Marne

  • 13 to 28 September 1914 – First Battle of the Aisne

  • 17 September to 19 October 1914 – Race to the Sea

  • 25 to 29 September 1914 – First Battle of Albert

  • 1 to 4 October 1914 – First Battle of Arras

  • 16 December 1914 – German Naval Raid on Hartlepool, Scarborough and Whitby.
